The irrigation systems in Samara have been established by well known international companies, and they are in good condition, and functioning well, but there are some problems that face irrigation systems in Samara, like:
• There are large and serious problems concerning the mud sediment in the basin of the Tigris River, for the fact that the main function of the Samara Dam is to hold water and raise its level, and not to store it. And for the fact that the sources of the Tigris River come from high areas, and this sediment is an obstacle in the running off of water at the top of the dam. Hence, the General Directorate for Dams worked on removing the sediment from the basin by mechanical ways consistently. The deteriorating of the security situation in the city caused to stop the work there. From time to time as well, there is a complete opening for the gates of the dam for the purpose of washing the front of the dam to reduce the levels of sediment. And because of this sediment in the western part of the basin, there have appeared numerous islands on which reeds and other plants have grown, which created a problem in the flow of
water.
• The prevailing irrigation system in the city of Samara depends on agricultural stations
(pumps) installed on the Tigris River and the other rivers in the city. They belong to citizens and through wells.

c. South of the city: most of the land is archaeological, where some agricultural land - also private or agricultural contracts on which there some wells.
d. From the west of the city: the Tigris River and after the river there are also private agricultural land or agricultural contracts.
